Possibly one of the most information Cathedrals in the UK, many visitors have boasted that its rich history and breathtaking interior is a must see for visitors.
Founded as a monastic community on 654 AD, the cathedral is the burial place for two queens – Catherine of Aragon and Mary ‘Queen of Scots’.
Open Monday – Saturday from 9am – 5pm and 12pm – 3pm on Sundays, entry is free (bonus) however there is a £3 charge if you wish to take photographs.
With a name like that, how can you not visit?
Discovered in 1982, Flag Fen allows you to imagine what life would have been like 3,500 years ago! Recognised internationally as the finest Bronze Age agrcaeolgial site in northern Europe.
More than just a site, visitors have the opportunity to explore the visitor centre, enjoying a cup of tea and cream cake in the cafe.
The site boasts a Roman Herb Garden, Soay Sheep (ancient breed that sheds it own wool), and an abundance of wildlife that can found when strolling around the Lakeside.
Most importantly, you can get your hands dirty by becoming an archeologist and doing the big dig!
Open for the summer months only from 10am – 5pm with last entry at 4pm. Adult tickets only cost £6 with a family of 5 ticket available at £16.
Think Gothic romance, decadent gardens and stunning backdrop and maybe, just maybe, you will be able to imagine the beauty of Elton Hall.
In the Proby family since 1660, the hall sits amongst 200 acres of parkland. Not only do you have the hall to visit but the various gardens and stunning Orangery should be included in your list of things to do. On a hot summers day, you could quite easily spend the entire day basking in the hall’s beauty.
Elton Hall itself combines a multitude of styles from the 15th century through to early 18th century.
The hall and gardens are open from May bank holiday weekend with tickets starting from £9.50 for adults.
A family day out that the kids will love, Nene Valley Railway takes you back in time as you ascend a traditional steam or diesel train.
Awarded the Certificate of Excellence 2016 by TripAdvisor, the train journey will let you explore surrounding areas from the comfort of a restored panelled coach or compartment, mirroring the interiors you’d expect from mid 19th century. You can expect to see Peterborough Cathedral en route!
Nene Park Trust is a combination of estates of which Ferry Meadows sits at the heart of the park. Arguably one of the top places to visit when in Peterborough, the park provides visitors with the perfect backdrop to walk, run, jog or cycle. If you would rather enjoy the scenery and enjoy some delicious food, try the local food available in the Ferry Meadows Cafe.
