Moving to Canada?

“We assure you a worry free removal so that you can focus on your future”.

Moving to Canada will make Britons feel right at home with the natural instincts of British politeness going hand in hand with Canada's hospitality culture and identical eagerness to apologise. A multi-cultural hub of the world, it is renowned for it's beauty, kindness and natural wonders, so it's no shock that more and more Britons dream of immigrating.

It's got stunning national parks full of the most exquisite turquoise-coloured lakes, majestic scenery with unforgettable sights, unparalleled heritage and so much more. There's something for everyone and it's a unique destination to start your new life, so you'll want it to start off on the right foot.

Whether you're immigrating to Canada for personal or business reasons, the last thing you want to worry about is how to get your belongings from A to B. Whilst moving abroad can be stressful, Britannia Harrison & Rowley aim to provide expertise service that will ease the journey.

We will handle everything from packing, import documents and delivery to custom clearance. We specialise in packing effects so that they are safe and secure for transit as well as providing detailed plans of your removal so that you know exactly what is happening and when.

What to expect from moving to Canada

Canada is full of opportunity for new immigrants, what with a growing economy and a culturally diverse growing population, you can expect just about anything when you start your new livelihood there. Everyone's heard of Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto, but have you thought about what you expect from each city? Here are some places to consider:

  • Move to Delta if you like trying new things, enjoy scenic hikes and love bird watching.
  • Move to Winnipeg for sunny skies, top of the range sports facilities and enriching cultural diversity.
  • Move to Vancouver for a growing metropolitan vibe in close proximity to the ocean, rivers and mountains.
  • Move to Toronto if you want good connectivity, are business savvy and enjoy socialising.
  • Move to Niagara for fresh air, job opportunities and of course, a beautiful waterfall.

Cost of living in Canada

The cost of living in Canada is generally cheaper than living in the UK; it offers low housing costs, high incomes and a fantastic quality of life, so moving to Canada will be an affordable move for most. Permanent residents of Canada receive free basic healthcare too, so unlike in the USA you won't rack up hefty bills for medical treatment. Its strong economy means it boasts many opportunities for work, so whether you move to highly populated cities such as Toronto, Vancouver or less populated cities such as Moose Jaw or Woodstock, you'll fit right in in your industry.

Getting an Canadian visa

Depending on your reason for moving and residency plans, there are different visas available for different criteria. If you're looking at permanently moving to Canada to live and work, you will likely need to apply for a permanent residence visa.

There are multiple Canadian visa options available such as immigrating as a skilled worker, through family sponsorship, immigrating as a caregiver, immigrate as self-employed and more, and Harrison & Rowley will help assist you in identifying which one you need as part of your removals package.

Your shipping options

Whether you are shipping everything you own including your car over to Canada or just a few boxes, Harrison & Rowley can help with the entire process. We coordinate international shipping effects to the big cities and the smaller ones with affordable costs and exemplary customer service.

From the moment you get in touch with an international shipping enquiry you will be appointed one of our removal experts who will oversee the whole process from an initial home visit to the unloading of your boxes when you arrive in Canada. We aim to take the stress away and make the whole removal process as seamless as possible. While our removal service is most popular in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, we can organise transit and arrange your transit to any city in Canada, so there's no limitations on delivery.

The cheapest shipping method is in a container across the sea, but if you need more urgency in the shipment of your belongings, we can arrange to transport everything by air although this method is more expensive.

Restricted items at Canadian Customs

The import of certain goods are restricted or prohibited when you bring goods into Canada from another country, so you may have to pay a duty fee. You may bring personal and household items without paying the fee but you'll have to pay duty on any item that you haven't yet used.

Before moving to Canada, ensure you check with the full list of restricted and prohibited items on the official website of the Government of Canada that the goods you're importing are accepted. You can also use their Duty and Taxes Estimator to get an idea of the fees you may incur for your move.

Great Team

From the moment the team walked into our home to pack up for the move we knew we were in professional hands they worked quickly but were very careful with our belongings and they were very approachable. On the day of the move they arrived on time and loaded the lorry efficiently with care making sure everything was safely stored. On arrival to the new property Ben & Chris worked solidly to make sure all our belongings were unloaded and placed into the correct rooms. We can honestly say this move was the only thing that went through without any stress which is more than can be said for the actual purchase. The whole team from the first telephone call to arrange a quote to the actual move was done with care, commitment and professionalism the whole team were a pleasure to work with we would like to say a big thank you to Ben R, Ben W and Chris D.

Free in person survey.

We offer free in‑person or online video surveys to make getting a quote quick and easy. If you’d prefer a visit, one of our experienced surveyors can meet you in person. If it’s more convenient, we can carry out a video survey at a time that suits you, using your phone or tablet.

Both options allow us to understand exactly what you need, answer any questions, and provide an accurate, no‑obligation quotation — with no pressure and no commitment.

The Booking Process

STEP 1: PRE-MOVE SURVEY

First, we'll conduct a pre-move survey. We will take a detailed inventory of everything that you’re looking to move. Please let us know if anything changes so we can update your quote accordingly

STEP 2: KEEP IN TOUCH

If you'd like to go ahead, please keep in touch with updates on your move date. We'll also follow up with a quick courtesy call to check you've received everything and answer any questions.

STEP 3: LET US KNOW YOUR TENTATIVE DATE

When you have a tentative moving date, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’ll make a note of it and do our upmost best to keep you updated on our availability.

STEP 4: BOOK YOUR REMOVAL

Once you've exchanged contracts (if applicable), it's time to book your removal. To confirm your booking, we require a 50% deposit if you're booking more than a week in advance, or full payment if your move is within the next 7 days

STEP 5: MOVING DAY

We’ll give you a courtesy call the working day before your move to confirm the final details and collect any remaining balance. After that, we’ll see you on the big day!
