Luton - A foodies delight
Wednesday, 15th June 2016

Here at Harrison & Rowley, we not only specialists in all things removals in Luton, but we also provide valuable information on the areas we serve. Luton is a prime place for worldly cuisine, so if you are thinking of moving to Luton, you may want to consider a nice place to eat!
From Gastro to healthy, fine dining to fast food. If, like most of us, you count down the minutes to your next meal and walk round a smile for the rest of day after decent meal then you’ll be pleased to know that Luton, yes Luton, is every foodies dream.
Boasting a dynamic and diverse community, Luton has greatly benefitted from several waves of immigration. In the early part of the 20th century, Irish and Scottish families arrived followed by Afro-Caribbean and asians.
The 2011 census revealed that the city was nearly 50% diverse, resulting in a rich and culturally diverse population. Cue – glorious food.
From curries through to posh nosh, check out our favourite restaurants below:
LA TRATTORIA – BUTE STREET, LUTON
A slice of Italy in Luton. A hidden gem favoured by locals, stepping inside transports you to the cobbled streets of Italy where you could quite easily imagine you are sitting in Signor Michael and Signora Agnes’s dining room.
Their welcoming approach further entices you to try their fresh and authentic Italian cuisine ranging from rack of lamb through to tender steaks. If meats not your thing, they offer a delightful range of pasta dishes that appeal to meat eaters and vegetarians alike.
Eat: The rack of lamb or check out their daily specials (pizza is one of the best)
Drink: Red wine
NAKORN THAI RESTAURANT – WELLINGTON STREET, LUTON
Known as the Land of Smiles (Thailand), Nakorn have brought their warm and friendly nature to Luton. Upon entering, you are blown away by the exotic smells wading in from the kitchens and the warm reception you receive by the restaurant family.
Possibly the best Thai restaurant in Luton (some will argue the best in the UK), the food served is fresh and deliciously warming.
Eat: The Tom Ka Gai is an office favourite
Drink: Chang beer
FROG AND RHUBARB – CHURCH ROAD, LUTON
A family favourite, the Frog & Rhubarb have a combined the key factors needed for a pub – nice interior, check. Friendly bar staff, check. Goof, comforting pub, double check!
Offering traditional British food with an international flair, the menu ranges from Pork Fillets served with a delightful mushroom, black pepper and stilton sauce through to a rich in flavour Lamb Tagine. Our mouths are watering just thinking of the Rabbit Suet Crust Pie!
Eat: Everything! They do an epic Sunday roast too
Drink: Whatever your heart desires – it is a pub after all
WERNHER RESTAURANT – LUTON HOO HOTEL
Named after Sir Julius Wernher who purchased Luton Hoo in the early 20th century, the restaurant is the equivalent of the Kohinoor in restaurant opulence in Luton.
Using locally sourced and seasonal produce only, the 2 AA Rosette restaurant is the ideal restaurant if you wish to indulge. The stunning grounds and opulent surrounding make for the perfect backdrop to dishes that include Roast Rump of Lamb served with garlic pomme puree or a delicious Pumpkin & Basil Fondant.
Eat: The strawberry iced souffle is heaven on a plate
Drink: Anything opulent – think bubbles!
DESERT’S ROSE RESTAURANT – BUTE STREET, LUTON
One of the original Middle Eastern restaurants in Luton, Desert’s Rose have been providing rich in taste and authentic in experience food to local Luton residents for over 10 years.
Serving a wide range of specialities including charcoal grilled meats, their hummus has earned quite the reputation in Luton as “a revelation. Undeniably rich, silky and impossible to not indulge in”.
The menu is incredibly varied – there is something to suit everyone!
Eat: Shish Taouk, Lamb Mansaf, Hummus. Try the mezzo if you cant decide!
Drink: Mango lassi
Whilst we do not claim to be food critics (removals and storage is our expertise), our favourite restaurants are the go – to places when we are hungry after a removals job in the area. There are many, many more restaurants that are all just as good or even better!
